VLOG #08 – Biketouring Thailand – Heat, climbs and stupid laws

We arrived to Chiang Rai and we took thetime to discover the unique sights the city has to offer This is the molding studio where theymake the pieces for the temples.

So, this is the first step.

As you can see thereis an iron wroght skeleton where they're going to pour plaster on it to make amold and then the next stage is the decorations Here in Thailand, we see many of thesebottles of water everywhere and people just come and serve themselves.

So theytake the glass and then they serve themselves with the ice.

Nice.

So let's take one, and then the water and they usually take straws but we don't like straws because they are difficult to recycle And I'm going to show you something else We all know Turkish toilets stylebut this one are like higher from the floor and it's quite complicated to get on it Another thing we are surprised to see isthat plants and trees are blooming now and we are in October.

It's verysurprising for us since we only have this in Spring in Europe and people herelove gardening and we can see now flowers everywhere we go They use bamboo to help the tree not tofall.

You can see all the bamboo in all the trees and they even keep bambooinside the tree just in case for the future Okay so, for a change, we're going up, likea really steep hill.

It's early in the morning that's why it's foggy but it's still very hot.

How hot Aurelie? I sweat everywhere from my body! Aurelie's body is sweating 100%.

That's why you need to drink! And also, I am going Swedish.

To go Swedish is an expression which means to ride like this, although I think Swedish style means with a helmet Well, we're not wearing a helmet because it's just way too hot and we're doing like three kilometres an hour so even if I fall.

.

.

My god! Once again, a difficult climb but anamazing view.

And another climb but let's concentrate on the amazing viewBeautiful! Look at that! Well that was really nice! As I alwaystell Aurelie, this is a machine and machines need to be cooled.

Always.

So, that was a really nice cooling session Now we just need to get dressed againand find some food Another specific fact about Thailand areall this water machine we see them in every village and people pay for thewater to get filtered water and.

.

.

NASA! so this one is from NASA so it should be very good.

Yeah she says it's from NASA.

But we never used it There's normally accessible water inrestaurants and it's where we take our water from.

.

.

and that's probably wherethey get it from Good morning for the last time inThailand.

.

.

this time, we'll be back! So, today we're crossing the border to Laos hopefully.

We're justdoing the last preparations before we leave We're checking the map before weleave.

I mean the road is straightforward but we just wanted to know.

This is what we have to do this morning Another tough day for 421adventure! We just had a coffee break Yeah, well deserved.

.

.

yes.

.

.

because here is very hilly.

.

.

OK.

.

.

And I can't understand why! okay Aurelie's a bit, yeah, she's a bit angry.

.

.

anyway But it's always worth it because lookat the view! Look at that view!! Fabulous! We just passed the Laosimmigration So we're technically in no man's landbut we're super stressed because they just informed us that they will not letus enter Laos, in this border, with the bikes! Yeah we're really stressed becausewe're really far from anywhere else We just cycled like four days to get uphere, we don't have any more visa in Thailand, like today was the last day sowe're really really stressed right now We don't know what's gonna happen.

.

.

Fingers crossed! Okay so, we have a big problem, we can'tgo to Laos with the bicycles so we have to go back to Thailand and it's greatnews because to go back to Thailand it means that we have to go back up a 10% slope which is uh, today's Friday we're not going to be able to speak to anyonetoday so it's just incredible What are we doing in a car and in which country are we? All of these mysteries! The answer is simple we're still in Thailand.

Finally we couldn't cross into Laos, the law changed very recently apparently and we can't enter with a bicycles So we could have entered, but without thebicycles, and you know what 421adventure said to that! Can I say it? F**k you Laos! We want to cycle all the way! So many options in our heads.

.

.

What do we do? How do we do it?? So we have to go back the way we came from but it's very very hilly, we've been cycling for days on very very hilly ground and the worst part is that actually our Visa, our Thai visa is running out tomorrow so we actually have to get back to Nanwhich is the district city.

.

.

capital by Monday and yeah I mean things right now are impossible so we have to think which way is the best option and which way to spend less money also because it's getting really expensive because every daywe overstay in Thailand we have to pay 30 euros ? Like 15 euros eachso 30 euros both of us each day that we overstay in Thailand so it's notgoing the way we wanted, it's part of the adventure, but we feel so frustratedthat because of laws that we don't understand we cannot gowhere we want to go.

To be continued! We had to go to another border and, dueto the complicated situation we just explained, we decided to go there by bus So apparently it's a thing because herein this parking where we slept last night we can see a statue of these twobeetles fighting so very interesting After one hitchhiked right, one nightsleeping in a car park and three buses we finally reached a border where, apparently, we should be able to cross by bicycle.

.

.

Oh it's so small! That's what she said!.
