RV trip to Canada // Border Crossing, Best RV Apps, and ebikes to Niagara Falls

so a lot of people were surprised tohear that we took this RV all the way from South Carolina up to Canada forjust a long weekend today I'm going to show you guys some of the apps that weuse and also talk about the border crossing see what it's like going intoCanada and then of course going back to the United States in a Motorhome we'venever done that before so show you guys what that was like and any issues thatwe had with that also going to show you guys what we found to be the bestcampground to see Niagara Falls on the Canadian side and how we utilize ourebikes which was a total GameChanger and really a lot of fun so first off it'sabout 12 hours to get from South Carolina up to Canada you can do thatall in one shot we've done that before but what we found works the best is weleft after work on Friday around 6 o'clock so we just keep going until weget tired and typically for me that's around midnight and we all trade alittle bit Kimberley now has been driving I mean I think on that drive shedrove for about two hours I laid down took a little nap while we were drivingand that was just super helpful I mean I've never a little sleep while we weredriving before that was amazing so we drove to about midnight and thenthe first thing for us that really helps a lot is like we don't really want topay for a campsite when we're showing up at midnight and leaving really early weuse the all stays app which has been amazing it has all the campsites on itthat you would want you can sort it by Walmart's in within the app it actuallyshows you when people actually have stayed at the Walmart they give up areview for how good that Walmart was if they were ok with people parking therewhere they parked if it was level if they felt safe if it was loud all thosethings they also have a Cracker Barrel is listed in there that usually have RVsites or be specific parking spots there as I'm starting to get tiredtymberlee they'll pull up the app look at what places are close to us and thenwe'll just find a Walmart or whatever pull in pull the shades up turn thegenerator on get it cooled off or just leave the cab running with the a/c goingand it wasn't super hot so that wasn't that big of a deal and we get about 6 or7 hours of sleep wake up around 6 or 7 a.

m.

maybe go in and hit any last-minutegroceries that you need from Walmart which is super helpful or have in ourcase this time some coffee and then get on the road and then it's about 6 hoursbut try to get at least halfway the night before and so we ran till aroundmidnight or 1 a.

m.

so we had about five or six hours left the next morning andwhat was really cool along the way the the route that we took was really prettywe pulled off at a really pretty overlook in West Virginia I mean I'dnever been on this route before or ended up flying the drone there and justwatching the Sun Rise come up and it was just it was great then we you know weended up getting we took our time there I think we showed up around 1 o'clock wehad to go through the Canadian border crossing first once we got to the bordercrossing because it was a holiday weekend on a Saturday we showed up therearound 1 o'clock in the afternoon and it was pretty busy I mean it probably tookus maybe a half hour to get across the bridge there and then go throughsecurity the Canadian crossing was not very wellmarked I will say so the Arby's had one designated lane that you were supposedto go to I believe it was lane 9 I'll have to go back and check the video butyou basically bear left and then go to the far right you kind of weave your waythrough yes sir it's written I appreciate it very nicely and once we got up therethey just asked us to park and then go inside so that's what they did theyasked us if we had brought any fruits or vegetables with us which we had not andthen they the only thing they asked us we had any fireworks firearms or pepperspray I was really surprised to see that pepper spray is apparently illegal inCanada we don't have pepper spray on us thankfully and you know their act was asticky Bush like if I search your vehicle and I I won't find a pepperspray right I was like no this is kind of threatened us to search the vehiclefor pepper spray but we don't have any so definitely make sure that you checkthe list that they have on their website I'll put a link to their list of all thethings that you can and can't have on our website I'll make like a moredetailed post of this that I'll put in the description of this video but theywere definitely a sticking point of pepper spice so just know that theydidn't actually search the RV they just checked our passports and then along wewent asked us how long we were staying and all that good stuff and yes so wedrove through we did have to pay an e-zpass toll of I think $3.

75 orsomething like that that's another thing that is very helpful especially ifyou're driving in the Northeast anybody can sign up for an EZ Pass we live inSouth Carolina we don't have the EZ Pass system there but we just went on theVirginia EZ Pass website I'll put a link to that in the description too and it'sfree to sign up for an EZ Pass we have a bumper mounted EZ Pass for the RV andyou just drive through it scans it and you're good to gomuch easier than having to stop and try to have exact change or whatever I spiton nightmares having the EZ Pass is awesome oh yeah once we got throughthere the the campsite wasn't too far from the border crossing and thereweren't a whole lot of campgrounds directly at Niagara Falls like heyinside but the one that we found here this Riverside Park motel and campgroundwas the best mix for us because we really want to use our ebikes we want tobuild a bike to Niagara Falls and this one was directly on Greater Niagaracircle rally that how the bike round is amazing it's87 miles and it connects Lake Erie to Lake Ontario runs along both coastlinesand then back along another place kind of more inland we only did the sectionfrom our campsite up to Niagara Falls and back which was about 10 miles andour bikes I mean that's not not that big a dealeven on a regular bike it's totally fine I don't think we really used hard motorsat all because it was pretty much flat but just having them if you did gettired is obviously nice and even go a little bit faster if you want becauseyou can use pedal assists and things like thatwe both have rad power bikes and for my wife who suffers with a lot of chronicback pain and joint pain and she has hypermobility she has a lot of thingsthat make just being on a regular bike or walking really painful and the e bikehas been really helpful so if you're having any mobility issues whatsoever Iwould highly recommend an e bike I'll put a link description below on ourebikes as well rad power bikes are the ones we have I found that for the moneythey've been amazing most of the ones if you go in like a store of Lisa's aboutthe time that I was looking it was between two and three thousand dollarsfor an e bike which I did not want to send that much money the rad power bikeswere I think about 1500 in so that was a much more reasonable price you know youcan get a regular road bike that cost that much so we went with those guys andwe've had them for I had mine almost three years now and it's been reallygood she's had hers for about a year and a half and we she's like this well wealso have they have a referral code so if you buy one and you would refer afriend or family that you can get 50 bucks for them off their purchase andit'll give you a $50 Amazon gift card we have one of those codes too so if you'reinterested in buying one of the bikes I'll put the code in the descriptionbelow so if you want to pick up one you can get 50 bucks off which is prettycool that rad and their customer sports were reallyawesome I actually recently broke the battery on mine and they still supportthe battery even though my model is discontinued I was able to buy areplacement battery and it was only a few hundred dollars which wasn't wasn'tthat bad but yeah so we ended up biking to the Falls anyway we biked to theFalls the bike ride to the Falls was really nice too I mean you're ridingalong the river it's really scenic there's beautiful houses there's somecrazy huge mansions there's these crazy futuristic looking houses and thenthey're just regular brick ranch houses and you see people out ride their bikesthere's people out having like little dinner parties and stuff and there'slots of little spots you can stop and look along the river and you know as youget closer to the Falls you see the you know the the water is accelerating andyou start seeing some Rapids and stuff and then eventually you start seeing thespray on the horizon like a few miles away you just see the spray coming upwhich that was really cool I was expecting to see that I mean I think itwas at least three miles away that you can just see the spray for the Falls andthen once we get there you know there's obviously lots of shops and all thisother stuff and it's kind of like a nice version of Las Vegas around there weonly went to the fall so I really can't comment all the other stuff that'saround there that was pretty much all we went there to see and then we just kindof soak that in I'm turnin and then and then bike back it was justreally nice to be able to bike there it was a very pleasant ride and the weatherI mean where we've heard in South Carolina it was 95 degrees when we leftand it was 70 degrees with basically no humidity up at Niagara and that was justreally really nice and we were basically had the same view that some of thesemillion-dollar houses had which was really nice the spots are pretty closetogether we did have full hookup on our sparse site so we had the power of thewater and the sewage tank which was which was really nice but it wasn't itwas it was level enough we had to use all of our blocks to get leveled up I'llprobably buy a second set of blocks for for that we don't have automaticLevellers on our RV so we have to use just some blocks to kind of get thingslevel but that works that works pretty well it had a nice big open field youcould play soccer in which is pretty cool we did rode the one wheel therewhich was nice my wife's still learning how to ride that so that was a really agreat spot to be able to do that they had a really small general store therereally how much in it so make sure you have all your all your stuff with youwhen you go there but they also had firewood then we had a nice fire goingthat even lasted through this torrential downpour that came after our first nightwe didn't get to see the fall tonight because of the rain we were worried youknow when you have a 10 mile bike ride back we didn't really want to bike thatin the rain it's in case it rained and we also didn't ride the boat because wewere worried about you know getting soaked and then taking our bikes back sowe got to watch the boat but we didn't ride it so that's one of the downsidesof biking in I mean if it was a little bit warmer out you know I mean I wasokay with doing it but my wife was not wanting the kids soaked wet and then andthen ride the bike back so that definitely keep that in mind if you'regonna do the the method that we did it with the the whole biking to the fallsbut overall it was it was really nice and not I for us I couldn't see a betterway since we don't have a car to actually see the Falls there aredefinite a lot of people that tow cars with them and I just had a know our RVs26 feet long and I just love how easy it is to park it anywhere and not have todeal with the car so the e bikes for us have been a really good way to kind ofkeep more minimalistic and make it easier onus I mean ah we can actually fit our RV in just a regular parking spot if weback in and have enough space to overhang the back about few feet whichis pretty cool we didn't have to use that really onthis trip but it's nice to have that functionality and ice not have to worryabout all the things that go with coming a car but after we ended up biking weended up taking a nice leisurely drive up the coast line up to Lake Ontario andit was a really pretty drive and one thing I didn't realize that all is onceyou get past the Falls you know you've got this big Gorge that that the fall isupon and it's really pretty to drive along that and the Canadian side is justgorgeous along the way and a few miles north there's what they call thewhirlpool which I didn't even know existed basically the Falls take like a90-degree turn there's this big swirling whirlpool area where that that reallyfast-paced really pretty blue water is just swirling and then turns up theFalls they even have this like really old like gondola that you can rideacross and you're actually going just across the K inside to the Canadian sideso it looks like you might be going to the American side but you're not becauseof the way though the whirlpool works it was only like maybe ten bucks to do thatwe ended up not doing it but it was a really cool looking thing just the colorof the water there was just really cool we hung out there for a little bit andwatch the Falls and then continue driving out to see Lake Ontario and itwas just there was lots of vineyards along the way we ended up not stoppinganything but if you're into wine there's a bunch of vineyards all through therejust the whole area is really pretty I think even Winston Churchill said it wasone of the prettiest drives that he'd been on the best way to spend his Sundayafternoon or something and then we ended up coming back down south and thencrossing the bridge over to the American side the traffic was even worse of it onthat I think that took about an hour just to go through the traffic to to getto the border crossing on the American side that one was a little bit bettermark they had signs all the way back saying where to go if you're a truckerand RV so that was pretty clear you just kind of stayed to the right and followthe lines there once we got up to the crossing the guy asked us a fewquestions many people are on board here's to okcitizens what country United States where do you liveSouth Carolina what are you doing in Canada we were here to see Niagara Fallsfrom how long has your trip been away from home just three days what's that soyou just drove for an hour B it's not bad right we camped in a Walmart on theway up did many weapons of firearms on boardno one else does guys live on the coast or what no Renoit's like inland you should be fine rightwhat do you mean oh I look at the news yeah it's going how's it made landfallyeah it's starting at the Florida chill okay I got cousins down in Melbourneyeah it's not pretty once category five knows what done over four that'ssomething else but he and the Bahamas are destroyed anyway on the other sideyeah I'm gonna come through yeah thank you now the American side lookedkind of I've got to say kind of dumpy compared to the Canadian side I mean itreally wasn't well manicured in any of the areas outside of the actual StatePark at Niagara the little town just like was kind of abandoned there thatright by the border crossing but once you got into the state park there forNiagara Falls that was actually really pretty an RV lot there specifically forparking your RV that was kind of toward the back of the the park they have atrolley system that runs through the whole park which we didn't use cuz wejust put our ebikes down but you could if you didn't have bikes to get aroundand overall the it was I think it was $10 to pay to park which we forgot topay because we didn't have cash we were supposed to use a machine and theydidn't ticket us so thank you guys for not picking ahead it was really bikableI mean we biked you could see you can get right up to the Falls on your bikesthat was really cool for my wife to be able to get right up to the fall of ourebike and not have to go up and down the stairs all that kind of stuff but it wasreally neat it was you know I gotta say when we were on the Canadian side Ithought there was no way that we would like to the American side just becausethe that you have a really great view of thehorseshoe on the Canadian side but once we got to the Americansright next to the falls there was really cool I don't know I gotta think I know why hewas and they worked there at that the balls right there that was get wet nigga yeah we didn't stay in there so probablyfive o'clock something like that and then we left there and did the samething you know went as far south as we could until we got too tired Kimberlywas amazing and she did a little more driving for me again which was a greathelp that really helps a lot being able to nap a little bit and drove tillprobably midnight one o'clock in the morning again found a Cracker Barrel ofsign this is our first time of stopping at a Cracker Barrel that was that wasfine they did have RV spots designated I will say I think I generally likeWalmart better because the Cracker Barrel we were the only ones back thereand it was kind of dark it wasn't really lit where's the Walmart all lit you knowthey're they're cameras out there 24 hours I mean they do have designated RVspots at the Cracker Barrel but the fact that we were the only ones there is Idon't know maybe a little more unsettling than when you're at theWalmart you feel maybe a little bit safer there but yeah we woke up againearly you know 6 a.

m.

they had deliveries coming at the Cracker Barrelaround 4:00 a.

m.

so that kind of woke us up a little bit and then yeah you don'tsleep as well after that so the Walmart was a little bit quieter from thatstandpoint but then we started riding home and we did stop on the way home atthis Virginia safari park which is a pretty cool thing you can drive throughthe park and have all these animals coming up to you and stuff that was thatwas a pretty neat thing but you know I don't know they the humane miss of thatit's like zoos and I don't know what you guys think about that stuff but I'malways a little on the fence about that it's like I love the fact that it getsawareness to people to see these animals they would never see which maybe helpsconservation things but at the same time examples are trapped there which is notcool but it didn't seem like they were super hungry I mean they they seemedwell fed they were they had a pretty big area to graze around which is kind ofcool and just being able to do that in the RV was pretty cool I mean seeingzebras and stuff when you could put them in the RV is is I got our cool thing soI'd still you know recommend doing it onceyeah but the whole reason that we went to the Safari Park was to as Kimberlyreally wanted to feed and pet some kangaroos like I got to do when I was inAustralia earlier this year and unfortunately the Kangaroos were allsleeping when we were there so we didn't get to do that anyway so we did it wasit was a cool experience had to see some stuff that we wouldn't normally see forsure and then we just left there and just kind of kept kept plugging on homegot home you know late that afternoon but stopped and took an apple on the wayand Kimberly drove some along the way we can't trade off and you know made that12 hour drive really not that bad we ended up doing on a holiday weekend sowe left Friday after work and we had Monday off for Labor Day and then wewere able to thankfully real take off Tuesday as well so we had a four-dayweekend so it wasn't like we just did it in two or three days I mean we had fourdays to do it but I'd say we probably could have done it in three days reallyone two I mean having one full day there till probably would have worked butoverall it was amazing I'll put on our website like what all the gas breakdownwas because I mean it's definitely not free to drive this thing up they'regetting 8 miles per gallon but I still think overall when you compare it withflying and getting a hotel and all that stuff that it was probably cheaper andthen for us just you know more comfortable because it's our home thatwe're driving with but love to know what you guys think love to know if any ofyou guys have been to both sides of the falls which ones you like better and ifyou have any other campsites that are better than than what we went for seeingNiagara Falls you know obviously we only went to the one that we did and so I'dlove to hear your thoughts on that if you guys like this video you want to seemore stuff of our our motorhome exploits definitely consider subscribing to thechannel and shoot us a like and talked at you guys later see.
